Jared Della Valle, FAIA, has been a real estate professional and architect for more than 20 years and has managed the acquisition and predevelopment of more than 2 million sf in New York City along the Highline, In the Hudson Yards, in DUMBO, and Downtown Brooklyn. . He has previously taught at Columbia University, Syracuse University, Washington University, Parsons School of Constructed Environments, and Lehigh University. His work has been the subject of more than 50 articles and publications, including a monograph entitled "Think/Make" published by Princeton Architecture Press.

Course Description
During this conversation with Jared Della Valle, FAIA, CEO and Founder, Alloy, discusses the architecture and real estate disciplines through unique organizational culture by questioning existing practices and proposing new ways to benefit the social and built environment. He will discuss the merits of risk assumption, the architect developer business model, and alternative uses of the word value.

Participants will learn about the merits of risk assumption and discuss and understand the architect developer business model through a case study of the Alloy Block project. Participants will be introduced to the design examples that define "place" as a larger development to provide more land for schools, 200 permanently affordable homes, equitable development, 3,000 new jobs, a new cultural facility, two new schools, with an aggressive environmentally sustainably plan that reflects the firm's value set and views the community as the client.
Participants will explore and discuss a case study of the Alloy 100 Flatbush Avenue All-Electric Skyscraper featuring 100% renewable energy source capabilities, induction cooktops and heat pump dryers, no gas utilities (no gas leaks combustion-free homes), no parking, high-efficiency electric boiler building-wide energy recovery, NYCLL97 2024 and 2030 compliant and NYS 2040 CPA compliant. Participants will discuss carbon-neutral design elements presented in examples.
Participants will learn to challenge the architecture and real estate disciplines through unique organizational culture by questioning existing practices and proposing new ways to benefit the social and built environment.
Participants will explore and discuss a case study of the Alloy 489 State Street Passive House School and the benefits of features including Highly insulated building envelope, reduced heating and cooling systems, thermal-bridge free construction, heat recovery ventilation, adaptive reuse of existing school. Participants will discuss how this school is designed to target Passive House Certification and the benefits of adaptive reuse.
