P+DC [Every]Place Series
Context of Place
climate, culture, & the urban conditions
Course Lessons
Delve into Department of ARCHITECTURE Co.’s practice from Bangkok, Thailand. The projects presented can be seen as samples of how the global culture and the local context might play out in the design of places. The variations in the context of climate, culture, urban conditions, availability of materials, budget, and so on, together with the similar and different challenges that we face today, may reveal themselves in the physical space we design. Architect Twitee Vajrabhaya will share how she interprets the features of local architecture and weaves design elements to connect seamlessly with the context and various issues that we are facing today.
-
Participants will explore differences and similarities in project development as it addresses people, culture, landscape, climate, and urban context in Thailand.
-
Participants will understand the benefits of creating open spaces in a dense urban context. Through a case study of The Commons, the architect will illustrate the commercial project's greater reach by creating an accessible, diverse, walkable, just, human-scaled program.
-
Participants will explore the transformation of learning spaces through a case study of the Chulalongkorn University Architecture Library. This remodel project challenged the architect to rethink a reading and book storage space to inspire a creative incubator.
-
Participants will explore opportunities to use light, transparency, and reflectiveness to create dynamic, creative, and sometimes peaceful spaces to address student needs for inspiration and well-being.
