Local Solutions with Big Impact: 4 Keynote Addresses
This 2021 Practice + Design Conference Keynote explores the Conference theme PLACE by examining local solutions with significant impacts.
1.5 AIACES HSW
This 2021 Practice + Design Conference Keynote explores the theme “Place” through innovative firms, materials, and methods. Today’s guest host is Trey Trahan, FAIA. With offices in New Orleans and New York, his firm brings humility and awareness into the design process and creates authentic spaces that elevate our lives. He will challenge the audience to approach design by considering soils, watershed, spatialized design, extracting materiality from place, and ultimately, seeking the truth of place for healing and connection. Then join three innovative practitioners who have challenged conventional solutions.
Participants will explore architecture and real estate disciplines through unique organizational culture by questioning existing practices and proposing new ways to benefit the social and built environment.
Participants will explore innovative materials and methods to create sustainable and resilient structures.
Participants will investigate adaptive re-use and speculative development while advocating for design as the basis for urban interventions.
Participants will learn to approach design by considering soils, watershed, spatialized design, extracting materiality from place, and ultimately, seeking the truth of place for healing and connection.
Through case studies, participants will understand the value of innovation and experimentation to support design excellence.
Through exploration of existing environmental elements, participants will understand the mitigation of challenges within an urban context.
